“The History of Electric Christmas Tree Lights “

In 1882, Edward H. Johnson, VP of the Edison Electric Light Company, attached 80 miniature handblown lamps to a revolving Christmas tree. In addition, 2 strings of 28 individually wired lamps were hung from the ceiling, creating a dazzling display of light; a task few had the skills or money to undertake with the cost of $300 per tree (or $7,620 today). Edison Experts Rob & Joan Rolfs take us through the fascinating history of the invention of electric Christmas tree lights and how they revolutionized our celebration of Christmas ever since!

Plus, the Rolfs have curated a special exhibit on the very first Christmas lights, which will be on display.

Hosted by Hearthstone. All proceeds go to support much needed capital improvements needed to make Hearthstone more energy efficient including a new furnace and restored windows.
